The power ballad, perhaps the most maligned and misunderstood element in the rock ’n roll periodic table. Zeppelin may have invented the form, but it was polished to perfection by the likes of Speedwagon, Journey and Styx. This month we pay tribute to that storied tradition with Lost it In The Lights.
Another tune that has been knocking around the Sleeper camp for a while. Lights was probably written in less than fifteen minutes, but has been worked and re-worked for the better part of five years. Lights marks Jim Roll’s first official appearance on a Sleeper recording. Jimmer shows off his mastery of the very rare Robot Spider.
Lights also features subtle nods to Springsteen, Sparklehorse and Tommy Lasorda. The first listener to correctly identify all three will win Ruben Tejada’s fractured fibula.
